The long-stay visa, type D, allows you to enter and stay in France from 4 months to 1 year.

Where to submit your request?

You must file your visa application (no more than 3 months before the planned departure) with the French consular authorities of the country where you live.

What to do at the end of the visa?

If you wish to stay in France, you must apply for a residence permit within the 2 months preceding the end of your visa at the prefecture or sub-prefecture of your place of residence.
