Stages of grief

  • Denial
    A conscious or unconscious decision to refuse to admit that something is true: a diagnosis, sequelae, severity of a problem, or need for intervention.
  • Anger
    Physical or emotional act by which the bereaved person tries to blame someone.
  • Bargaining
    Process of negotiation by which the bereaved person tries to delay the inevitable or to distance himself from the reality of the situation.
  • Depression
    Feeling out of control or hopeless about the situation.
  • Acceptance
    Feeling of stability or resignation as the patient becomes an active participant in their life.

Tips for overcoming this ordeal

  • If possible, see the body of the deceased

  • Cry for relief
  • Pay attention to your health. Anxiety, depression or sleep disorders, but also muscle or joint pain, digestive disorders, dizziness or heart palpitations, or skin problems (psoriasis, eczema) are common.
  • Reduce stress — relaxation methods and meditation are beneficial
  • Do not try to anesthetize your emotions with, for example, alcohol or drugs
